“The measure of a society is not just in what it achieves, but in who it chooses to bring along for the journey.”
The individuals and organisations I admire most are those who refuse to leave others behind. Their work goes beyond policy or charity; it is about opening doors, shifting mindsets, and ensuring that no one’s starting point limits their future.
The stories in my books and articles reflect that same belief. They show how resilience, inclusion, and shared purpose can transform lives and whole communities. Below are some organisations whose missions closely align with these values. They are making a tangible difference across the UK and beyond. I encourage you to explore their work, use their resources, and consider the role you might play in the change they are driving.
Social Mobility Commission
https://socialmobility.independent-commission.uk
The Social Mobility Commission works to ensure that the circumstances you are born into do not dictate the rest of your life. Through research and recommendations, they challenge the barriers that hold people back and remind us that talent is everywhere. Opportunity must be made visible and accessible.
I often draw on their insights in my work. Understanding how mobility is measured and influenced helps us create fairer chances for the next generation. Whether you want to reflect on your path or help others in theirs, this is a valuable place to start. I was honoured to be asked to review one of their recent reports and share feedback to support their mission.
Mind – Mental Health Support
Mind is a lifeline for many navigating mental health challenges, offering practical advice, advocacy, and a listening ear when it is needed most. Many of the people in Forged have faced mental health struggles, and the themes of recovery, resilience, and community that run through their stories are values Mind lives every day.
As a Mental Health Ally in my workplace, I often advocate for better support in my talks and orientation sessions. Mental health remains dramatically underserved in many countries, but organisations like Mind offer hope that change is possible. If you need support or want to understand how to help someone else, their resources can strengthen your ability to meet life’s challenges with compassion and courage.
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals are a shared blueprint for a more sustainable, fair, and inclusive world. Goals such as Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Decent Work and Economic Growth are woven throughout Mindset to Mastery and Forged. Exploring them helps you see how local action connects to global progress.
I first engaged deeply with the SDGs while writing a ten-year North Star vision for a medicine and healthcare regulator. That experience reinforced how the goals are not abstract targets, they are closely tied to daily life and choices.
Good Things Foundation – Digital Inclusion Support
https://www.goodthingsfoundation.org
The Good Things Foundation works to close the gap between those who are digitally connected and those who are not. In today’s world, lacking access to technology or the skills to use it can cut people off from opportunities. Their mission is to make sure no one is excluded from the digital future.
I work with the Foundation through my role at Accenture and recently co-chaired a House of Lords session with them on accelerating digital inclusion. Their initiatives show how connectivity can transform lives. On their site, you can find free resources, training, and local projects to help you or someone you know get connected, learn, and thrive.
What next?
If you take time to explore these sites, you will find ideas, tools, and stories that can change how you see the world and your place in it. You will see how small actions connect to bigger movements, and how each of us can open a door for someone else.
